| Maserati shakedown doesn't quite go as planned! |
The shakedown run of the brand new Moor Racing Maserati Trofeo GT4 car turned out to be just that, a shakedown due to a suspension problem.
The day started well with Rob seeing the car for the first time. "It is a beautiful looking car despite being orange!" commented Rob. "The 4.3 litre Ferrari Engine sounds stunning and reminds you that this is a proper GT car, let get onto the track!"
The first order of the day was to sign on and have the Championship photos taken. Rob also, along with the other British GT drivers, signed a race Tyre that will be auctioned for charity later in the year. The Maserati then took to the track with Rob at the wheel for the British GT promotional video along with several of the other competitors including Lambourghini, Ferrari, Aston Martin and Ascari. Unfortunately during this, Rob sensed a problem with the Car and following the session the Car was taken into the Garage and checked. It turned out to be a loose bottom suspension arm ball joint. Rob added "The car only arrived in the country on Sunday morning so the team haven't had chance to do more than a quick check over, the guys did a fantastic job t get the Car back out with a running repair in the time we had!"
Paul Fenton then took the Car out for its first full speed run and managed around 20 laps before bringing it in to swap drivers. Rob then took to te track for his first full speed test. After a few installation laps, as Rob hadn't driven the international configuration before, the speed increased the the full potential of the car could be seen. Despite suffering from high speed understeer the car showed it had alot of speed. Unfortunately, the suspension problem reappeared cutting Robs running to just 5 laps. Rob added "It was a little dissapointing not to get more laps but I can see that the car is going to be good, the guys back at the team can now get their hands on the Car and give it a complete rebuild. We will try and engineer out the high speed understeer and make the Maserati a truly competitive Car. I know that the next time I get in, it will be a completely different Car, I can't wait!".
